I am president of a condo and we want to retrieve the video from our DV8000 ourselves without using our security company.:xd:

The security system computer is currently at the PIN prompt but any mouse or keyboard that we attach to the computer will not work. The software is at least 4 years old. Our security company has told us that Intellex no longer supports our machine and we must upgrade. This is quite expensive when the software is recording and we just can't get beyond the PIN prompt.

I am fearful of resetting the system because I don't know what will happen.

Any ideas why the mouse/keyboard ports do not work. The port are 'turning on' for the mouse and keyboard because I can see lights blinking but nothing happens after the initial plug-in.

Thanks.
Jim.

Hi Jim, welcome to our forum...

Let me give a good trial to solve your problem... It is very unlikely and if not impossible for the keyboard and mouse not to work unless if either both ports of the keyboard and mouse are damaged (very rare, but not impossible) or you may be using the wrong keyboard and mouse type...

Lets get some preliminary info if possible...

Do you have the PIN code to get into the Intellex?

Was this PIN code was the "Admin" code or a user code? Dependent on the answer, were you able to have complete control on the system, including the setup, etc..?

You can bypass all the PIN codes and reset the PIN codes to factory default and there is a trick to it... By bypassing the PIN codes, it does not effect what you already recorded or continue to record.

What you need first of all is set of Keyboard and Mouse with "PS2" round connections and not USB connections. Even if you are using USB based keyboard and mouse, they will light up when the system starts loading, but the system will not recognize them, as the drivers are not installed in the system, thus they will not work!

These PS2 keyboards have been around since the computers became mainstream... and eventually were replaced or being replaced by USB based keyboard and mouse..

Before you connect them, make sure your system is turned off... If you can not turn it off any other means but to unplugging the power cable in the back, do so...

Then hook up your new keyboard and the mouse and make sure that each gets connected to their appropriate ports in the back of the system.

Once installed, turn on the system by plugging the power cord into the power supply in the back of the system. If the system does not power up the system automatically, then you need to obtain a paper clip and observe two very small holes on the front of the system (towards the center of the front cover). There should be two very small holes on top of each other...

Insert the paper clip into the top hole and gently push it in. You will feel and possibly hear "click" sound and then will observe that they system is powering up.

Now, the tricky part is to push down and hold down the "CTRL" from the moment it passes Windows startup. This process will insure that Intellex software does not launch automatically and it will go into the Windows desktop...

Lets try the above steps and see if you can carry the above tasks before we go to the next level...

Let me know...
