When I power it on it will start running the Intellex program and when it comes up, it then shuts the hole system down and turns off. is it the software or the hard drive. If anyone can help it would be greaT!!! No one in my town has no clue about this system.

Hi Collin, welcome to our forum...
The product above describes one of the oldest systems American Dynamics made over 10 years ago... and it either operates with Win98 or Win95... and there are no parts available to perform any type of changes, etc...
Since the system boots up and and even reaches to show you Intellex software screen for few seconds, the problem is not with either hard drive nor with the software. I think the problem is with the capture card or its driver. None of these are available at the moment and the only way you probably can even find it is to purchase another similar system and replace the capture card... This should do the trick... However, finding similar functional system nowadays will be extremely difficult, if not impossible. In case if you can find a similar system, replacement is very easy...
I know that I have one of these functional units in stock and we kept it since over 10 years ago for testing and assisting customers on questions that they may have. I also know that there are at least 1,000+ of these units still are in the market and still work well despite the age.
Since I am not sure which version it is, here is one thing you can try...
Make sure you have both keyboard and mouse hooked up to this machine for the following task...
First, turn the machine on and once it passes the initial BIOS screen, hold down the CTRL button on the keyboard and keep it held down. This process will make sure that your Intellex software does not load and instead, it will take you to your desktop.
Second, go into system drivers section and see if there is or are any drivers that your "yellowed", which means that either driver is bad or it is not recognizing something essential to Intellex. Write down the name of the driver and set it aside...
Third, make sure that all your connections to all the components are in place and push them in to insure... this applies to capture card, the video card, all the motherboard connections, the power supply connections, etc.
Fourth, see if there is any visible damage on the components - mainly the motherboard capacitors, the components on the capture card, etc.
Fifth, if everything looks good, then unplug the capture card and inspect the PCI connector that capture card sits into... if there is a corrosion or anything noticeable, then either clean if possible or move the capture card to next available PCI slot, if available...
Try all of the above steps and let me know what you find first.. It is possible by going through the above steps, you may be able to get the system up and running again... If not, you have few choices left...
1. You can send this unit to us and see if we can bring it back to life... The cost for the evaluation and the testing and with full report will cost you $100.00... This way we can confirm exactly what the problem is. If through this process we can fix the system without changing the part, then your cost remains the same... If there is a need to change the part, then I can quote you a price and you can cost justify if it is worth the repair.
2. You can purchase refurbished 16 channel system from us with 1.0TB internal storage, three years warranty, DVD burner and version 3.2... Our pricing for this type of system is $3,500.00 and it delivers all the feature and functions the Intellex is known for.
3. If you need less than 16 channel Intellex system, we have some very aggressive pricing for 4 channel and 8 channel systems brand new or even refurbished...
Collin, please let me know and again, thank you for being part of our forum.

When I stoped the intellex from running and went to the desk top and clicked on the the program it would run, but if it reboots and starts the program it will shut down. So it seems to be running ok,BUTT now it seems it will not show the cameras I hook up, when I go into status it shows the cameras hooked up but the screen is black and it will not record? Once again thanks for all the Great information, butt if you have one more trick up your sleeve that would be great.
Thanks

There must of been some change of the software...
Go to desktop again, as I described the process... go to startup - Start- Programs-Startup and tell me what you see?? You should have only one application and not two... right down what you see and please post..

Looks like that this system underwent a software upgrade that added this second line in the "Startup". You should have only one of them and the question is which one...
From the product code (DV8000), it looks like you have 8 channel DVMS Intellex system and that was not established before... Can you also please tell me what is your operating system? Is it Win95, Win98 or Win2000? It should be Win98, but lets confirm it... Just go to the desktop as described above, right click on "My Computer" and select "properties"... It should specify what your operating system is..
By looking at both shortcuts on what you see in the "Startup", it does not tell me which one needs to come out... but one of them must come out, as they conflict each other. One of the shortcuts was automatically added at the time of the software upgrade, thus this conflicts which version Intellex suppose to startup and when both trying to Startup at the same time, you system does not know which Intellex application to run.
The best answer lies on your desktop... When you go to desktop, right click on the "Intellex" shortcut (again on your desktop only) and check the properties.. It either will identify the shortcut as "executable" or "batch" file shortcut. If the shortcut on your desktop that works is the DV8000Launch, then you have to delete the "Intellex" shortcut from the Startup. Or, if what you see on your desktop is the "Intellex" shortcut, then you have to delete the DV8000Launch from the Startup...
The safest way to perform this task is to first create a directory on your desktop and call it "Intellex Startup Shortcuts". The go to your Startup folder and copy both shortcuts and paste them into this new created directory. Make sure you have the copy of both files... Then based on what you see on your desktop shortcut that works, then delete the second shortcut from the Startup... Restart the Intellex system and it should work...
If you may have made a mistake in deleting the wrong file, then you have the backup files in your newley created directory called "Intellex Startup Shortcuts"... and then you can reverse the process...
Collin, I hope this works and please let me know the outcome. If this process does not work and bring your system to life, then there are only two other possibilities left... First one is your capture card driver, which is very easy to change or to modify and the second one is the more expensive option that involves replacement of your capture card... Before these assessments are made, let try the above recommendations and based on your the outcome, then we can address these additional options.

It has windows 98, and it has 16 channels, When I checked the properties under the Intellex short cut, I could not see where it would say "executable or batch" I did copy both programs from the start up to the desk top, and I ran both programs and they both looked to be the same program and they both came up with 16 channels but no cameras came up. I left the Intellex program under the start up and its running with out shutting down.

Ok... there is a definite software conflict issue here... Since you already copied both files from Startup to your desktop, please delete the file called "DV8000Launch" from the Startup... and restart the machine... This product code and the file is pointing to 8 channel Intellex system and there is a very good chance that it was automatically added when this software was upgraded...
The system will not operate with both files in the Startup... as they point to a either different version or different Intellex platform...
You should have only of these files and I can not confirm exactly which one right now.... and let try doing it with the "Intellex" file in the Startup... and lets see where this goes... I think we are very close to either fix it once and for all or identify some other problem as I described above.

I deleted the 8000 program for the startup and rebooted the system and the intellex program is running. However, I left the 8000 program under the desktop. The system is still not bringing the cameras up. Do I need to delete the entire 8000 program from the desktop also? I only hit the right click button at the startup and deleted the program for 8000, do I need to go into programs and delete the entire 8000 program from the system?

Collin, you do not have to delete the file from your desktop... but then again, you will not need that file going forward anyway...
Now, this troubleshooting comes down to two options... either it is the capture card driver or the capture card itself...
Let me get the driver url and will post it shortly...

Collin, try this driver from this url:
http://americandynamics.net/support/downloads_20030903_Intellex_VACD_Updates.aspx
Please download this executable, take it to the desktop of the Intellex and run. When complete, please restart the machine... and lets see what happens. If this does not display, then please check the ribbon cable connection in the back of the Intellex... There is a ribbon cable that ties the Intellex back plane to the capture card board... see if it is inserted properly and check for any visible cable damage.. If you see any damage, that cable has to change... Otherwise, if none of the above work, then the problem is pointing to the capture card...
